Palestinians, Israel announce cease-fire
CNN
February 8, 2005
SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt -- Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon announced a cease-fire Tuesday, hailing it as a new opportunity for peace in the Middle East.
"We have agreed with Prime Minister Sharon to cease all violence against the Israelis and against the Palestinians, wherever they are," Abbas said after talks at their summit in Egypt.
The historic summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh -- hosted by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Jordan's King Abdullah II --is the first upper-level meeting between Israeli and Palestinian leaders in more than four years.
"A new opportunity for peace is born," Abbas said.
Sharon said Israel will cease its military operations in all locations in return for Palestinians' ending violence against Israelis.
"We really hope this day will be the day that marks the relaunching of the process for a better future that will lead us towards mutual respect and peace in the Middle East," Sharon said.

Maybe we should wait with the euphoria.....
Hamas: Summit represents PA alone, not factions
"The summit [in Sharm e-Sheikh] and its outcomes express only the standpoint of the Palestinian Authority, and not that of the Palestinian factions at large," a Hamas spokesman in Gaza told Al-Jazeera Tuesday afternoon.
The remarks were considered surprising, as earlier in the day – before the opening of the summit – another Hamas official applauded the Israeli-Palestinian summit and indicated that his group would be willing to put a stop to violence.

| "Theory, anatomy, neural circuitry, function, and behavior now support a hypothesis of the forked tongue as a chemosensory edge-detector used to follow pheromone trails of prey and conspecifics [especially the opposite sex]. The ability to sample simultaneously two points along a chemical gradient provides the basis for the instantaneous assessment of trail location." |

...taqiyya?
What I don't get is a rush to put their heads back in the sand and not face reality. And it's bad enough that the Palestinians are doing it, but the Israeli's and the American's too????
And what was this about Dr. Rice's statement the other day about 'contiguity?' Has that been gone into with any depth?[/b] |

Without sounding too pessimistic I cannot see people, nurtured by extreme hatred, promised Paradise in self destruction, indoctrinated into believing that killing Jews and oneself is carrying out the will of God - in fact worshiping the God of death, taking up terrorism as a job for life and financed ( wages, full board and lodging for life ) is suddenly going to give up their way of life to knuckle down to the hard work of normal people. Therefore I believe that Israel should proceed with extreme caution and always have a plan ready if things do not go as expected. _________________ Shaul |

Welcome grantman and Shaul
Yup you are both right but it appears to the rest of the world that we are doing the correct thing -- again
Maybe we shall have a respite for a few months/year and yes years of indoctrination can not be undone overnight.
