Jordan's King Abdullah calls on Assad to resign

Abdullah says if he were in Syrian president's shoes, he'd "step down, make sure whoever comes after has ability to change status quo"; warns that Assad must first start a new phase of Syrian political life.

King Abdullah II of Jordan called on Syrian President Bashar Assad to "step down," in an interview with the BBC released Monday.

Putting himself in the embattled Syrian president's shoes, Abdullah told the BBC, "I would step down and make sure whoever comes behind me has the ability to change the status quo that we're seeing."
